President's message
Northern Lakes College has experienced many changes over the past thirty-five years. We began as a small vocational college offering academic upgrading and the Educational Technician program and have continued to grow in order to meet the demands of community learners. We offer a full slate of programs ranging from Academic Upgrading, Certificate and Diploma programs, University courses and full degree programs. Through direct and distance instruction, we ensure our learners can access affordable education right from their home community. To find detailed information on all of our programs visit our web site and simply click on the Programs and Courses button located on the home page and you will access a database with current, up to date information. Since the early 1970's, our graduates have been applying the knowledge and skills learned at NLC in small rural communities across Northern Alberta. We are proud to employ many of our graduates, in fact, we have two Education Technician graduates from our very first certificate program still on our staff. Our grad successes are celebrated throughout our campuses and many have received provincial recogition as role models. We are proud to help students build successful careers and become contributing members to their communities. On our web site you will also find information on the many partnerships that the College is involved with. Our partners range from small businesses, petroleum companies, band and settlement offices, community groups, municipalities, and government agencies. We are open to ideas and forming new partnerships and have staff members that would be happy to discuss a partnership with you. NLC is committed to making opportunties happen through innovative training. I invite you to peruse our web site, and be sure to bookmark it for the future. Rick Neidig President and CEO

Winefest 2012 - Child Artist
Butterflies and a bright purple kitten are featured in this year's signature painting created by Olivia Ramsey of Fort Myers for the 2012 Northern Trust Southwest Florida Wine & Food Fest. The painting will be auctioned at the Wine Fest Grand Tasting and Auction on February 25. Olivia "Liv" is 7 years old and an oncology patient at The Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida. Now in the second grade, she was diagnosed with leukemia in December of 2010. According to her mom, Michelle, she is now in the maintenance phase of her 2.5-year treatment program. "Her first 6 months of treatment were the hardest, but she always handled everything with a smile. If you met her, you wouldn't know she was battling cancer except for having shorter hair!" The Ramseys considered moving north, to a cancer treatment center, before meeting Dr. Emad Salman of The Children's Hospital. "We didn't know what we had in our own back yard," Michelle said. "The facility is phenomenal. The nurses, the physicians, they are so knowledgeable and they treat you so well. They've made us feel comfortable the whole way through and it's scary ride." The doctors and nurses at The Children's Hospital have become heroes to Liv. "They've done so much for me and they've helped me a lot. I don't have to worry. I know that I'm going to be fine," she said. Olivia is giving back something of her own as well. She has founded Olivia's Wagon of Wonder. Throughout the year, she will be giving other pediatric oncology ...
